Chia Hsien Chao's Idyllic Forest Living: A Harmony of ESG and Luxury

Iron A' Design Award Winner Transforms Residential Spaces

Discover how Chia Hsien Chao's award-winning design brings sustainable luxury to residential living, creating a serene forest-inspired retreat.

Chia Hsien Chao's "Idyllic Forest Living" project is a testament to the harmonious blend of environmental stewardship and sophisticated design. Recognized with the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2024, this residential space in Taichung, Taiwan, redefines the concept of a passive house by integrating ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) values into every aspect of its creation. Completed in October 2022, the 157.0255 square meter property stands as a beacon of sustainable innovation in interior design.

The homeowner's desire for a peaceful sanctuary to unwind during holidays and host gatherings set the stage for Chia's vision. The design emphasizes health, safety, and peace of mind, while maximizing space utilization and efficiency. The result is an inviting residence where friends and family can come together, enveloped by the tranquility of a forest-like environment.

Distinctive features such as the use of green materials and a color palette that combines understated grays with vibrant accents set "Idyllic Forest Living" apart. Marble adorns the living and dining rooms, while cement texture artistic paint on the TV walls creates a dynamic interplay of colors under varying lighting conditions. This thoughtful use of materials not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also underscores the commitment to sustainability.

The design's realization technology is equally impressive. The entrance foyer boasts parquet tiles and SPC flooring, while the living room's geometric sofa with suspended stainless steel armrests complements the faux-concrete painted TV walls. An extendable dining table with adjustable lighting and a flip-up design for the study and guest room bed exemplify the project's innovative approach to space-saving solutions.

Chia's design interacts seamlessly with the residents' lifestyle. The open-plan glass partition for the study, which doubles as a guest room, and the extendable dining table reflect a meticulous attention to detail and functionality. These elements ensure that the space is not only visually expansive but also versatile, catering to various needs without compromising on style or comfort.

Underpinning the project is a foundation of rigorous research into environmentally friendly materials and practices. Low formaldehyde system cabinets, non-toxic latex paint, water-saving bathroom fixtures, and LED lighting are just a few examples of the sustainable choices made to ensure a healthy living environment. These decisions reflect a broader commitment to reducing energy consumption and environmental impact, aligning with the global movement towards ESG values.

Chia Hsien Chao's "Idyllic Forest Living" is more than just a residence; it's a statement on the possibility of living luxuriously while being mindful of our ecological footprint. It stands as a shining example of how design can elevate our living spaces and our consciousness towards a more sustainable future.
